Juniata Baseball Blasts Cairn 15-0 In Season Opener

AUBURNDALE, FL- Eric Grace (Hopewell, PA/Northern Bedford) pitched five innings of one hit ball and the Juniata offense banged out 15 hits as the Eagles' baseball team began its 2015 season with a 15-0 victory over Cairn on Saturday afternoon. Grace had six strikeouts and surrendered just two walks.

Brady Cotler (Chadds Ford, PA/Salesianum) and Anthony Lombardo (Altoona, PA/Altoona Area) both went 3-for-5 from the plate and combined for four runs scored and four RBIs. Jacob Terry (Denver, PA/Cocalico) was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and three RBIs.

Grace went 4 1/3 innings before surrendering his first hit, a single by the Highlanders' Trent Fiori. After hitting the next batter, Grace induced an inning ending double play to thwart the Cairn threat.

Jonathan Geyer (Newport, PA/Newport) pitched two innings of relief and struck out two batters.

The Eagles return to the diamond tomorrow morning when they face Cazenovia. Game time will be at 9:30 a.m.
