Albion splits Thursday doubleheader

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Michael Fischbach's sixth-inning RBI single capped Albion College's rally from a six-run deficit as the Britons pulled out a 9-8 victory over Stockton in the first game of a spring break baseball doubleheader.

Albion had to settle for a split, losing the nightcap, 14-4.

Stockton scored four times in the third to pull in front, 7-1, in game one.

Albion chipped away at the deficit, scoring three times in the third. Steven Marowski and Spencer Bonofiglio produced RBI hits and Jack Wyman drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Mitch Lasceski and Kyle Kowal launched solo homeruns in the fourth as Albion draw within a run. Ben Crawford and Fischbach produced RBI singles and Justin Dennis scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.

The rally lifted Matt Temrowski to the win in his first start of the season. He settled down to retire the Stockton batters in the fourth and sixth and he worked around an error and a walk in the fifth. Temrowski allowed four earned runs and six hits over six innings.

Gunnar Owens allowed a one-out triple in the seventh. He retired the next two batters in pocket the save.

Fischbach collected three hits and scored two runs, Dennis produced two hits and Lasceski drove in two runs in game two.

Albion, 2-2 on its spring break trip, is scheduled to play a nine-inning game against Waynesburg (Pa.) College at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla., at 9 a.m. Friday.
