Baseball Scores 15 Unanswered Runs to Split with Oneonta

Winter Haven, FL – The SUNY Canton baseball team overcame a 6-1 deficit to score 15 unanswered runs en route to a 16-6 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against SUNY Oneonta on Sunday. The Roos (2-2) dropped the opening game 4-2.
 
After trailing early in game two 6-1 SUNY Canton had a tremendous comeback as they turned the four run deficit into a seven run lead after a huge fourth inning. The Roos extended that lead to 15-6 with two more runs in the sixth en route to the convincing 16-6 victory. Derek Harkin (Ottawa, ON) earned the victory on the mound. Derrick Machado (Brooklyn, NY) and Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI) each knocked in three runs, while Jeremy Baez (Bronx, NY) added 2 RBI's.

 

 
In the first game of the day the Red Dragons got on the board in the opening inning. SUNY Canton erased the lead in the fourth inning when Chris Roenbeck (Plattsburgh, NY) grounded out scoring Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, FL). In the ensuing at-bat Douglas singled to center bringing Baez across to put the Roos up 2-1. Oneonta responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the fifth to earn the 4-2 victory.
 
The baseball team is back in action at 9 a.m. on Monday when they take on Fontbonne University in a single game.
