Winter Haven, FL – Juan Rosa (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) used a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the SUNY Canton baseball team to a 4-3 win as they split a pair of games against Fredonia on Thursday. The Roos (3-5) dropped the opening game 13-1.

Fredonia got on the board first in game two as they had runners at the corners with no outs. SUNY Canton was able to turn a 5-4-3 double play to only allow one runner across in the top of the first.

Juan Rosa hit the game-winning walk-off single in Game 2.

The Roos wasted no time getting one back in the bottom half of the inning. Christian Nazario-Cruz (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) led off with a single and stole second. Wilson Matos (Brooklyn, NY) grounded out to second moving Nazario-Cruz to third and he would score asJeremy Baez (Bronx, NY) reached on an error.

SUNY Canton would take its first lead of the game one inning later when Matt Hall (Palmyra, NY) singled up the middle to plate Derrick Machado (Brooklyn, NY) for the 2-1 lead. The Blue Devils knotted the game at 2-2 in the fifth when Ryan Carmody singled home Kenny Johnston.

Fredonia took the 3-2 lead in the sixth inning when Ciro Frontale scored on a SUNY Canton error. In what proved to be a back-and-forth affair the Roos responded once again in the bottom half when Brandon Welch (Constable, NY) used a base hit to drive in Jamie Ashton (Brockville, ON) from second. The Roos would move runners to second and third after a Dalton Demarco (Bloomingdale, NY) single and a passed ball. However, the inning ended with a struck out as the game headed to the seventh tied at three.

The Blue Devils put runners on at the corners but a fly out to Nazario-Cruz in left ended the inning as the Roos came to bat looking for the win. With two outs SUNY Canton rallied as Matos reached on an error by the third baseman. On a passed ball he would advance all the way to third where Rosa would come up with the timely base hit for the walk-off.

Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) earned his second win of the season throwing the complete game while allowing just two earned runs. He gave up seven hits, struck out three and walked one.

In its opening game of the day the Roos got on the board first in the top of the first went Matos scored on a sacrifice fly from Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI). However, this would be the only run of the game for the Roos as Fredonia went on to a convincing 13-1 win. John Mancini (Scotia, NY) took the loss on the mound for SUNY Canton.
