Deliberti Shutout Lifts Roos to Split vs. Arcadia in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC – Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, NY) threw five innings of shutout ball as the SUNY Canton baseball team split a pair of games against Arcadia University on Sunday in Myrtle Beach. After dropping the opening game 3-1 the Roos (4-9) bounced back with a 5-0 win in the nightcap.  

Dom Deliberti got the win in Game 2 and helped the Roos secure their first shutout of 2015.

 
Game 1
The Roos got on the board first to open the game. With two outs the team rallied as Wilson Matos drew a walk. Brandon Welch(Constable, NY) followed with a double to left setting up runners at second and third for Seth Douglas. Douglas reached on an error by the first baseman scoring Matos.
 
Arcadia responded in the bottom of the first when Andonis Yiantsos scored Nick Todero on a sacrifice fly to left field. The Knights added two runs in the third inning. The first scored on a double steal with runners at first and third to score Tom Wagner. Later in the inning Michael Nessel singled to left field to plate Todero.
 
SUNY Canton nearly put together a comeback in the top of the seventh. Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL) reached base after being hit with one out. With two outs in the inning he advanced to second on a passed ball and Derrick Machado(Brooklyn, NY) drew a walk.
 
Mike McGinn (Palmyra, NY) pinch ran for Machado and Christian Nazario-Cruz (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Chris Roenbeck (Plattsburgh, NY) pinch-hit for Matt Hall (Palmyra, NY) with two down but grounded to second to end the game.
 
Juan Rosa (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) got the start on the mound giving up three earned runs over six innings. He struck out two batters and surrendered seven hits. Michael Ferrence earned the win for the Knights throwing seven innings of two hit ball without giving up an earned run.
 
Game 2
Deliberti tossed five innings giving up just five hits on two walks and two strikeouts in game two. Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) and Keenan Shannon (Ballston Spa, NY) gave up just one hit in two innings of relief to get SUNY Canton its first shutout of 2015.
 
The Roos had a big second inning bringing four runs across to control the game. Nazario Cruz singled to center field to score Machado. Wilson Matos (Brooklyn, NY) used a base hit to center to plate Roenbeck and Jeremy Baez (Bronx, NY) doubled to left to score Nazario-Cruz and Matos. Machado would add a sacrifice fly in the fifth bringing home Baez to round out the scoring.
