The New York University baseball team scored double-digit runs in both games of a doubleheader to sweep Cairn University on Wednesday, March 18, in Langhorne, PA. The Violets won game one 12-7 before winning game two 10-2 to improve to 5-8 on the season.

"We were able to get out to quick leads in both games and that's important," said Head Coach Doug Kimbler. "It's always nice to get ahead early, as it helps the defense build and let everyone breathe a bit."

NYU got out to a fast start in game one, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Chase Denisonstarted the game for NYU and earned his first career victory. The freshman scattered seven hits over six innings while striking out two and allowing four earned runs. Scott Hilbrandt hit his first-career home run in the victory to help lead the Violets past the Highlanders.

In game two, NYU raced out to another quick start, tallying four in the top of the first. Cameron Serapilio-Frank won his second game of the season for the Violets, pitching five innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs.

"Both of our starters had better command today," continued Kimbler. "They both took advantage of pitching leads. They pitched to contact and had confidence in their defense."
