WHITTIER — Occidental starting pitcher Nolan Watson pitched a gem, allowing just one baserunner through six innings, and the Tigers pulled off another ninth-inning victory, beating Whittier 3-2 in the second game of a three-game series this weekend, and the first of a doubleheader at Memorial Field on Saturday.

Oxy improves to 15-7 overall and 11-3 in SCIAC play. Whittier falls to 3-19 and 1-10.

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth, Charlie Caccamo tied the game with an RBI-double that brought in Jonathan Wong and then Johnathan Brooks singled home Caccamo for the go-ahead run.

Oxy closer Scott Ericksen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save, giving the Tigers their second ninth-inning win in less than 48 hours.

The Tigers broke a 6-6 tie on Friday in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Poets in the first game of the series.

Watson, who had five strikeouts in eight innings, earned his fifth victory of the season, improving to 5-1 with a 3.38 ERA. The sophomore gave up just one hit to Graham Pimm in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Poets scrapped together a pair of runs on two hits and his only walk in the seventh.

Victor Munoz and Brooks each went 2 for 3 for Oxy and A.J. Libunao, who drove in Oxy's first run with an RBI-single in the fifth, was 2 for 5.
