Senior Currey Thomas of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) tossed a three-hit shutout as the Hope College baseball opened MIAA play with a home split against Trine on Saturday.

During the sixth, Gulick added a RBI single and junior shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS), hit a solo home run.

In the nightcap, senior second baseman Devin Schaefers of Lake Forest, California (El Toro HS), drove home Gulick in the third for a 1-0 lead, but Trine rallied.

The Thunder touched starter Jake Chipka of Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne) for seven hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings.
