BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The fifth-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team picked up a home win Tuesday evening, defeating in-state rival Huntingdon, 5-1, at Striplin Field.

The Panthers moved to 18-3-1, while the Hawks fell to 14-10.

BSC scored three of its runs early, with junior Matt Brown scoring on a wild pitch followed by an RBI ground-out from senior Jacob Mayfield and an RBI single from senior Casey Lambert, all in the bottom of the first inning. The score stayed at 3-0 until the bottom of the seventh when an RBI double from sophomore Zach Wingate plated Brown to put the Panthers up 4-0.

The Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the top of the eighth, and the Panthers capped off the game's scoring in the bottom of the eighth on a sac-fly by senior Brandon Marino.

Huntingdon out-hit BSC 8-6; sophomore Jack Rhodes led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-4. Will Pharis led the Hawks with three doubles in four at-bats.

Junior Miller Bonds (1-1) started and gave up three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. Sophomore Mac Crawford threw the next 2.2 innings, allowing two hits with two walks and three strikeouts, and junior Wilson Jamison picked up his first save of the year after pitching the final 2.2 innings and striking out three batters with three hits and a walk.

The Panthers will face Huntingdon again tomorrow, March 25, at 6 p.m. in Montgomery in a make-up game from earlier in the season when the game was postponed due to weather.
