Baruch Defeats Rutgers-Newark on a Wet Afternoon (5-4)

The baseball team defeated the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark, 5-4, in a non-conference game on a wet and drizzly Thursday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey.

The game marked the third straight time that the Bearcats played in a minor league stadium during the past week. The game today took place at Newark Bears Stadium, while earlier in the week they played Old Westbury at home at MCU Park on Coney Island and Mount Saint Mary on Sunday at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, New York.

The visiting Bearcats broke open a scoreless game in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
Dan Daleyto bring home Sean McNamara.

They increased the lead in the sixth inning to 4-0 with an RBI double by
Nicholas LaForgia, a fielder's choice RBI by Zachary T. Uherand an RBI single by Ardian Selmani.

The Scarlet Raiders did not go quietly and scored twice in the eighth inning to get as close as 4-2.  

The Bearcats responded with an important insurance run in the ninth as
Matthew Ballonescored from third base on a passed ball. That proved to be significant as the Scarlet Raiders added two more runs in their final at-bat, but Ryan Smithearned the save as he notched the final out with a strikeout to end the team's five-game losing streak with the 5-4 win.

Cameron Kittgot the win with 12 strikeouts to help defeat an opponent from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

The team will begin the CUNYAC portion of their schedule on Saturday, March 28, at the College of Staten Island at the newly revised time of 2:00 pm.
