Baruch Splits Doubleheader vs Staten Island

The Baruch College Bearcats began their CUNYAC schedule today with a doubleheader split against the Dolphins from the College of Staten Island.

The Bearcats lost the opener, 8-3, but came back in the second with a 10-3 rout to salvage the split.

They jumped out in the opening game to a 3-1 lead.
Eric Ulinoopened the scoring with an RBI single in the third, while in the fifth, Nicholas Calabresescored on an error and Matthew Ballonehad an RBI single to account for the early 3-1 lead.

The Dolphins battled back with four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth en route to the 8-3 home win on a sunny afternoon.

In the second game,
Zachary T. Uhercleared the bases with a three RBI double to set the tone early with their opening at-bat.

The Dolphins would later tie the contest, but the Bearcats went ahead by three runs in the fifth inning. Ulino and
Jasdeep Buttareach smacked an RBI double, while Nicholas LaForgiahad a sacrifice fly RBI for the 6-3 lead.

They broke open the game in the seventh inning with more four runs for the eventual 10-3 final score.
Angel Tejedahad an RBI single for the first run. Jesus Ozuna Perezhad a triple to score two runs and he came around on a fielding error to help clinch the win.

Matthew Faziopitched a complete game win, his second of the season, with a line of seven innings, six hits, three runs, all earned, to go along with five strikeouts to even his season record at 2-2.

With today's results, the Bearcats go to 5-11 overall and 1-1 in the CUNYAC, while the Dolphins are 3-5 and 1-1 in the CUNYAC.

The Bearcats will hit the road on Tuesday, March 31, for a 3:30 pm single contest at New Jersey City University.
