Late baseball rally falls short vs. Adrian, 5-4

ROME, Ga. - - Although the Vikings out hit the Bulldogs 10-9, the Berry College baseball team lost to Adrian College on Friday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 8-5. The win improved the Bulldogs to 2-2.

Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Alex McGill came to the plate with runners on the corners. McGill, however, grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.

Three Vikings posted 2 hits in the loss: Dusty Tyson (2-for-5), Devin Skelton (2-for-4), and Ryan Smith (2-for-4). Skelton and Smith each scored a run for the Vikes also. Smith knocked a double for the home team as well.

Adrian College scored 2 runs in each of the first two innings to go ahead, 4-0. However, as the game wore on, Berry chipped away at the early deficit, scoring runs in the third, seventh, and ninth innings.

For the Bulldogs, Dakota Cararo had 2 hits on the afternoon. He also brought in 2 RBIs for Adrian when he homered to right field in the second inning.

Ben Jernigan started and went seven innings for the Vikings while taking the loss. Joey Bell pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game.

Eric Schmidt got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Shane Healy and Cody Hamilton both pitched in relief for Hamilton.

The Vikings host Transylvania College in their next game on Saturday, March 7, at William R. Bowdoin Field at 4 p.m.​
