ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion College treated the Jannen Field scoreboard like a pinball machine Monday afternoon.

The Britons put up a season-high 13 runs in game one and they exceeded that figure in game two to sweep a doubleheader from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Trine University by scores of 13-7 and 16-1.

Albion snapped a seven-game skid at Jannen Field with the game one victory and it went on to earn its first doubleheader sweep there since 2009.

Michael Fischbach went 6-for-9 with two doubles and eight runs batted in. He leads the MIAA with 29 RBI this season.

Spencer Bonofiglio and Kyle Kowal slugged homeruns in game one and Jack Wyman and Steven Marowski each added two-run homeruns in game two.

Justin Dennis produced four hits in six at-bats. He also drew a walk and scored four runs.

"We feel like we had been getting good swings recently," Albion Head Coach Scott Carden said. "The hitting was contagious. We stayed locked in all day."

Game One

Fischbach hit a RBI double and Bonofiglio slugged a two-run homerun over the left field fence in the first inning and Albion never trailed. The Britons led 9-0 after Shane Lindemann scored in the sixth.

Jordan Baer clubbed a two-run homerun as Trine rallied for six runs in the sixth.

Albion squelched Trine's comeback as Kowal hit a one-out homerun in the seventh. Chase Carpenter and Fischbach added RBI singles as Albion scored four times in the inning.

Nate Brubaker (1-2) pitched five shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He was charged with five earned runs on four hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. Brubaker retired six batters via strikeouts. Gunnar Owens finished the game for his fifth save of the season, a single-season record for Albion.

Game Two

Wyman made its first start on the mound against a league rival and he helped his cause right away with a two-run homerun in the first inning. He later added two doubles and a triple and finished with five RBI and five runs scored. He was a single away from hitting for the cycle but he wasn't about to stop at first after hitting the ball over the centerfielder's head in the sixth.

On the mound, Wyman scattered seven hits and three walks in pitching his first complete game at the collegiate level. He got eight strikeouts.

"He's a gritty kid," Carden said. "He kept them off balance."

Marowski and Fischbach added three RBI apiece and Kowal hit a two-run single in the fifth.

On Deck

Albion (10-8 overall and 4-4 against MIAA rivals) has an opportunity to tighten the league race Friday when it begins a four-game series with a Kalamazoo College team that is off to a 6-0 start in league play.

"It was good to get three wins against Trine, but we have to keep playing the right way," Carden said.
