Maiolo, Trentham Both Drive in Three as R-MC WIns at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Juniors Nick Maiolo (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) and Michael Trentham (Midlothian, Va./James River) each had three RBI as the 10th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team defeated Catholic 10-3 Wednesday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (17-4) scored four in each of the first two innings to take control over the Cardinals (13-5-1).

Maiolo (3 for 5, 2 R) had an RBI single in the first to start the scoring. Freshman Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added an RBI double before Trentham's two-run single gave R-MC a 4-0 lead.

After CUA tallied one in the bottom of the frame, the Yellow Jackets put up four more in the second. Maiolo had a two-run double, while Migliorini and Trentham added sacrifice flies to give the visitors an 8-1 advantage.

Sophomores Blake Saathoff (Catonsville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Jordan Schmeer (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) both drove in runs in the fifth as R-MC took a 10-1 lead.

Sophomore Nic Phelps (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) earned the victory to raise his record to 4-0. He allowed four hits and two runs in five innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Christian Cok (Chester, S.C./Lewisville) pitched two perfect innings with a pair of punchouts.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, April 4 for a 3 p.m. ODAC doubleheader at Roanoke.
