Anchormen Blow Past Becker, 15-2

Providence, R.I.-Senior right fielder Pat Rogers (Waterford, CT) and freshman first baseman Frank Pettinato (Cranston, RI) each recorded three RBI to lead the Rhode Island College baseball team to a 15-2 victory over Becker in non-conference action played at Anchormen Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Anchormen (7-4), playing as the visiting team, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first following three straight hits from the heart of the lineup. Sophomore pitcher Jake Murray (Middletown, RI) kept the lead secure, allowing only one hit in the bottom of the first.

An RBI single by Hawks (9-6) sophomore Niko Bedell (Manorville, NY) in the third trimmed the Anchormen lead down to two, 3-1, entering the fourth inning of play. Each teams scored a run in their half of the frame to put the score at 4-2 after four complete.

The Anchormen tallied three in the top of the sixth, keyed by a two-run homer from Rogers that went over the left field fence. The eighth inning would be the stanza that salted away the victory as the Anchormen erupted for seven runs. Freshman center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI) knocked in a single run in the top of the ninth and junior lefty Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, RI) recorded two strikeouts in the frame to complete the victory.

Douglas was 3-for-6 with two RBI, while Rogers was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs. Four RIC pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in the game with sophomore Jake Roy (Seekonk, MA) picking up the decision (2-0).

Bedell was 2-for-4 on the day with one RBI while eight pitchers saw action for the Hawks. Sophomore Tyler Wagar (Uxbridge, MA) (1-2) recorded the loss, allowing four hits and three runs in one inning of work.

 In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Brandeis on Thursday, April 2 (3:30 p.m.).
