MADISON, N.J. (April 2, 2015) – The Drew University baseball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth, and after a walk-off hit by sophomore Tommy Broyles in the 10^th inning, topped Moravian College 5-4 in the Landmark Conference series opener on Thursday at Doc Young Field.
 
Down 4-2 and faced with their last three outs in the ninth, the Rangers (7-12, 5-5) got the leadoff hitter on base with sophomore Marc Cohen's single. After two sacrifices and Moravian's fifth error of the game, senior center fielder Al Krause delivered a sacrifice fly to score Cohen, and junior first baseman Bobby Miskura followed with the game-tying RBI single.
 
Senior closer Matthew Hunter, who came on with two outs in the eighth to record a four-out save with Drew leading 2-1, allowed an inherited runner to score and yielded two more all on a three-run single. Hunter settled down and held the Greyhounds (8-8, 4-6) scoreless over the next two innings for the win on the mound after giving the Rangers a chance to come back and eventually walk off with the victory.
 
In the 10^th, sophomore catcher Mike Miraglia started the game-winning rally with a leadoff single. Freshman pinch hitter Isaiah Mateo moved Miraglia to second with a sacrifice bunt, and sophomore third baseman Jonathan Rodrigues bounced a single over the third baseman's head to set up runners on first and third with one out for Broyles.
 
The sophomore slugger yanked a single through the left side of the infield to score the game-winning run, and Broyles was swiftly mobbed by his teammates at first base.
 
"It finally feels like our hard work is paying off," Broyles said after escaping the dogpile. "We've been working day in and day out, but haven't had much on our side in any of the close games. I would have expected anyone else to go up there and get that hit because it's for a team win. It doesn't matter if it's me or anyone else in the lineup, as long as it gets done. It's a team effort and it was a great win."
 
Sophomore starting pitcher Patrick Boyle was locked in a fast-paced contest early against Moravian pitcher Nicholas Mazzella. Boyle allowed just three hits, but walked four, in 7.2 innings of work, while striking out two. He entered the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead.
 
The Rangers' 11 hit attack was obtained by eight different players.
 
Drew led 1-0 in the first inning after junior second baseman Anthony Feltre recorded a sac fly to score freshman right fielder Ryan Sabbag, who was 1-for-4 on Thursday. After the Greyhounds tied the game at 1-1 in the third, senior designated hitter Robert Auletti laced the Rangers' first hit of the game in the fourth inning, a smash up the middle to score Feltre for the 2-1 lead.
 
The Rangers continue their Landmark Conference series against Moravian with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 4 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Doc Young Field.
