Methodist Runs Win Streak to 15 With 10-1 Win at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. -- Michael Inman worked 6.0 scoreless innings and the Methodist baseball team upped its win streak to 15 straight games with a 10-1 win at Piedmont on Saturday afternoon.

Inman allowed just two hits and worked around five walks in improving to 3-1 on the season. He struck out one on the day. Four different relievers combined to allow one run on four walks with no hits and three strikeouts over the final 3.0 innings.
 
Methodist (24-7, 16-5) tallied the game's first run when Stephen Nalls scored on a double steal in the third inning for a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs poured on four runs in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead. Steven Kirby reached on an error to lead off the frame and then quickly stole second. After Matt Jack struck out, Ray Lanners drew a walk and he and Kirby pulled off a double steal to put runner on second and third with one out. Pete Wildeboer doubled to drive both runners in and give MU a 3-0 lead.
 
Nalls followed with a triple to score Wildeboer, and Lucas Scott's groundout to first allowed Nalls to come home and make it 5-0.
 
The lead grew to 7-0 the following inning as Kirby scored on a wild pitch, and Jack beat a throw to the plate following a Lanners single. Alex Rodriguez and Kirby added run-scoring base hits in the seventh for a 9-0 lead, and another wild pitch allowed Wildeboer to score in the seventh for a 10-0 advantage.
 
Piedmont (17-11, 14-10) scored its lone run in the ninth inning on a hit batsman, and three walks to deny MU the shutout.
 
Max Oberkofler took the loss for Piedmont. He allowed seven runs (5 ER) on five hits and three walks with one strikeout in 4.1 innings.
 
Nalls finished 4-for-5 at the plate, including a double and a triple, with a pair of runs and one RBI. Lanners was 2-for-3 with a walk and one run scored and one RBI. Kirby finished 2-for-5 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI, and Wildeboer was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs.
 
Breck Davidson was 2-for-2 with a walk for Piedmont as the Lions mustered just two hits on the day.
 
The Monarchs will look to continue their winning ways on Friday when they open a three-game set against Averett beginning at 7:00 pm.
