FRANKLIN, Ind. — The numbers are starting the add up for the Earlham College baseball team.

Earlham split a doubleheader on Saturday at Franklin College, which allowed the Quakers the claim series.

Franklin took the opener 5-2 before the Quakers bounced back with a 3-1 decision in the second game.

The victory puts the Quakers at 20-6 overall and they remain in first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference at 10-5.

With the win in the second contest, Earlham Head Coach Steve Sakosits is now at the top of the all-time list for victories with 81 as he passed Tom Parkevich.

The total victories for the Quakers mark the fifth 20-win season in school history. With 13 games remaining in the regular season, the Quakers ensured that they will have a second straight winning year, which hasn't been done since 1970-71.

The highest win total was in 1970 when the Quakers were 26-7. The 1971 team was 24-12-1, while in 1969 the Quakers were 21-10. Last year, Earlham was 21-18.

Earlham starting pitcher Matt Brankle (3-3) went the distance to lead the Quakers in the second game. He surrendered eight hits and allowed a run in the ninth to go with nine strikeouts. Earlham's all-time leader in strikeouts, Brankle has 221 in his career.

Devin Spurgon knocked in the first run for the Quakers with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

In the sixth, Josh Parr put the Quakers in front 3-0 with a two-run single. Parr led the Quakers with two hits.

A RBI single by Nate Lynch finished the scoring for Earlham in the eighth.
