GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College baseball team pounded out 44 hits and 35 runs while sophomore rightfielder Connor Tom tied a pair of school records – including a 50-year-old mark for doubles – en route to a Centennial Conference (CC) sweep of Ursinus College Sunday afternoon at a sunny Kirchhoff Field.

The twinbill was originally scheduled for March 28 as both team's Centennial Conference opener but was rained out.

The Bullets (16-9, 5-4 CC), who piled up a season-high 22 hits in each game, captured the opener 14-1 before winning the nightcap 21-6. Their 22 hits were the most since the 2013 team put up 24 in a 17-5 victory over Ursinus, and Gettysburg's 21 runs marked its highest offensive output since a 21-4 win at Franklin & Marshall College on April 13 of last season.

Tom led the offensive attack for the Bullets, finishing the day 8-for-9 with four runs, four doubles, and five RBIs. He enjoyed an outstanding performance in the nightcap, going 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBIs, and four doubles, which tied a Gettysburg record set by Frank Wolfgang '66 nearly a half century ago on April 24, 1965 in an 8-6 win over Lafayette College. Also, for the second time this season Tom tied numerous others for the most hits in a game.

Gettysburg also received a pair of solid performances from its starting pitchers. Senior Eric Hungerford (New Preston, Pa./Shepaug Valley) worked seven innings and scattered eight to earn the win in the opener before sophomore Eric Brown (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) tossed a complete game 12-hitter in the nightcap without allowing a walk or an earned run.

Ursinus (14-8, 4-5 CC) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first game when Chris Jablonski launched a solo homer to straightaway centerfield, but the Bullets would blank the Bears the rest of the way. Hungerford (4-1) struck out four and helped himself by picking off two runners while earning his 23rd career win. Freshman Ryan Janiga finished the game on the mound, firing a pair of scoreless innings while yielding just two hits.

The Bullets took the lead for good when junior Shawn Moffitt blasted his first career home run, a two-run shot to left off starter Vince Piccioni (3-2) that made it 2-1. Gettysburg added two in the fourth, then tacked on 10 more runs against five Ursinus relievers.

Sophomore John Convery went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs in the opener while senior Cory Karagjozi also finished 4-for-5. Moffitt was 3-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs while Tom added a 3-for-4 effort. In addition, sophomore Will Anderson and senior Scott Zanghellini scored three runs each.

Gettysburg wasted little time putting runs on the board in the second game, crossing the plate six times in the first while chasing starter Seth Regensburg from the game after two-thirds of an inning. However, the Bears responded with four unearned runs on two hits, two errors, and a hit-batsman in the second to pull to within 6-4. But the Bullets answered quickly with a two spot in both the second and third to make it 10-4, then settled any doubt with a run in the fourth and four more in the sixth to go up 15-4.

The Bears pushed across two more unearned runs in the seventh before Gettysburg set the final score with six in the eighth.

In addition to Tom's record-tying performance, junior Steve Wright registered a big day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs. Senior Mike Kielbasa scored three runs while Zanghellini collected three RBIs.

Brown (4-1) struck out four while working his second career complete game.
