FREDONIA, N.Y. – Junior Seth Lamando (Hopewell Junction/Roy C. Ketcham) and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as nationally top-ranked Cortland defeated host Fredonia, 12-0, to complete a three-game sweep of the Blue Devils.

The Red Dragons (24-2, 9-1 SUNYAC) won on the day that they moved from second to first in the D3baseball.com national poll.

Cortland has won 10 of its 11 games since returning from Florida. The Red Dragons have played only one of their first 26 games on their home field. Cortland is scheduled to host Oneonta for a single game Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday at noon.

Lamando, now 3-0 on the year, allowed four hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out six and walked none. Sophomore Jesse Winters (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Central Catholic) allowed only one walk and fanned three in the seventh and eighth innings and Ryan McAlary (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) threw a perfect ninth.

Junior Conrad Ziemendorf (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) went 2-for-2 with a homer, three walks, a hit-by-pitch, three RBI and three runs scored to lead Cortland's 15-hit attack. Senior Donny Castaldo (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) doubled three times, scored twice and drove in a run in five at-bats.

Also for the Red Dragons, freshman Justin Teague (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored and senior Anthony Simon (Suffern/Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Vincent Sherman finished 2-for-2 for Fredonia (9-13, 4-6 SUNYAC). Carl Wolf suffered the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, in two innings.

Cortland scored two in the first when Castaldo led off the game with a double and Ziemendorf homered. The Red Dragons added four in the second on a Vinny Bomasuto (Dunkirk) bases-loaded walk, a Simon RBI single, a double-play grounder and an error.

Castaldo doubled in a run in the third, and Teague plated a run with a sac fly in the fifth. Cortland picked up two more runs in the sixth on an Austin Clock (Niskayuna) fielder's choice and a Nick Hart (Fredonia) RBI single. Ziemendorf singled home a run in the seventh and Sean Getman (Oneonta) hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth.

Fredonia had only two runners advance into scoring position, both in the fifth. Sherman and Kenny Johnston led off with singles and pulled off a one-out double steal. Lamando, however, struck out the next hitter and got a flyout to end the inning.
