William Paterson Baseball Suffers 4-0 Loss at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (17-9, 4-7 NJAC) suffered a 4-0 loss at Rutgers-Newark (10-19, 1-10 NJAC) April 16.

 

The fourth single of the frame allowed the Scarlet Raiders to take a 1-0 first-inning lead, and they added two more in the third with a pair of walks, a base hit and a double. Rutgers-Newark tacked on one more score during the bottom of the eighth inning thanks to three singles and an error.

 

Sophomore center fielder Mike Abate (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) was 2-for-4 with a double for the Pioneers at the plate. Freshman Mario Danza (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Twp.) took his first loss (3-1), allowing three runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Senior Joe Moran (Wharton, N.J./Morris Hills) gave up one unearned run and four hits over 1.2 innings, posting one strikeout, while junior Frankie Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) had a strikeout during his 0.2 inning of action.

 

Sophomore left fielder Josh Cote finished 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Scarlet Raiders. Senior Jonathan Dominiguez (2-2) pitched the complete-game shutout, scattering five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

 

William Paterson will host Rutgers-Newark Friday, April 17, at 3:30 p.m., with sweatshirt and hat giveaways for WP students.
