The Hope College baseball team erupted for a 19-2 win at Albion on Friday to salvage a doubleheader split in the opener of their four-game series.

The Flying Dutchmen (16-12 overall, 9-9 MIAA) rebounded after dropping Game 1 by a 6-3 margin.

First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader at Boeve Stadium is 1 p.m.

In Game 2, the Flying Dutchmen jumped ahead 12-0 during the bottom of the first. Hope sent 18 batters to the plate during the rally — totaling eight of its season-high 24 hits against two Albion pitchers and capitalizing on four fielding errors and three walks.

Four Hope players delivered two-run hits in the first: catcher Nick Glowacki and rightfielder JP Batts on doubles and freshman centerfielder Tyler Gulick of East Lansing, Michigan (East Lansing HS), and leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) on singles.

Gulick, junior shortstop Brady VanderWeele of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment HS), and junior designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), had three hits apiece during the game.

Hope matched its all-time best for runs in a game against Albion. In 2012, the Flying Dutchmen won 19-7.

Winning pitcher Jake Chipka of Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS), scattered six hits and two runs over five innings. Chipka (4-2) struck out four against Albion (14-14, 8-10).

In Game 1, Albion snapped a 3-3 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

VanderWeele's bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the top half of the sixth tied the score.

The Flying Dutchmen scored twice in the fifth when Batts came home on a throwing error and Gulick hit a sacrifice fly.
