CLU Edges Oxy in 10 Innings

THOUSAND OAKS — Johnathan Brooks extended his hitting streak to 27 games and Walker Marksdoubled in Jonathan Wong in the top of the 10th inning to give Oxy the go-ahead run.

But Cal Lutheran responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, beating the Tigers 6-5 in the first game of a three-game series between the teams this weekend.

The Tigers fall to 19-14 and 14-8 in SCIAC, putting them in a tie for fifth, but just two games back of first, with six teams still in the hunt for the SCIAC four-team postseason tournament and the regular season SCIAC championship, with six games to play.

Brooks, who has reached safely in every Oxy game this season, finished 1 for 3 with an RBI. Victor Munoz was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Charlie Caccamo went 2 for 5 with a pair of runs scored, A.J. Libunao was 2 for 5 and Jeffrey Johnson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Oxy starter Nolan Watson was good, giving up just one earned with four strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Cal Lutheran reliever Landry Kiyabu earned the victory.

Next Game: The Tigers and the Kingsmen play a doubleheader at Oxy's Anderson Field on Saturday. The first game starts at 11 a.m.
