Providence, R.I.-Freshman center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI) went 3-for-4 with one run scored as the Rhode Island College baseball team dropped an 11-3 decision to Little East rival UMass Dartmouth at Anchorman Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The early innings showcased elite pitching for both squads as Rhode Island College (17-8, 6-4 LEC) junior lefty Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, RI) and UMass Dartmouth (16-10, 7-3 LEC) junior southpaw Aaron Chouinard (Swansea, MA) kept the game scoreless through two innings.

UMD was coming off an 11-0 contest in which Pingitore no-hit the Corsairs in the two clubs previous meeting on April 14.

The Corsairs started their run in the home half of the third when freshman second baseman Josh O'Neill (Halifax, MA) doubled down the left field line. Following a bunt single and stolen base by senior center fielder Ryan Medeiros (Acushnet, MA), a single up the middle drove in O'Neill from third. An error by the Anchormen allowed Medeiros to score from third to put UMD up, 2-0.

Following an unearned run after another RIC miscue, senior third baseman Nate Farias (Fall River, MA) capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI double.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Anchormen notched two runs in the top of the fifth keyed by senior third baseman Tyler Santaniello's (Cumberland, RI) RBI and run scored. The Corsairs answered back in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice on a homer by senior catcher Cory DeMedeiros (Fall River, MA).

The Anchormen notched their third run of the game in the top of the sixth when junior catcher Matt Foley (Seekonk, MA) drove in Douglas to cut the UMD lead down to three, 6-3. The Corsairs wouldn't be stopped, however as they plated two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a commanding, 8-3, advantage.

The teams wouldn't score again until the bottom of the eighth when UMD plated three more runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single to right field by senior first baseman Alberto Vasquez (Roxbury, MA) to give the game its, 11-3, final.

Pingitore went 5.0 innings, allowing six runs, three of them earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts in the loss (2-1). Chouinard went 8.0 innings, allowing three runs, two of them earned, while scattering six hits and striking out 11 in the victory (2-2).

Foley and Santaniello each knocked in a run for the Anchormen, while DeMedeiros went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored in the victory.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Springfield tomorrow afternoon.
