Trinity Baseball Takes Two Against Middlebury

Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain RHP Sean Meekins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and junior LHP Jed Robinson (Winchester, Mass.) combined to allow six hits and two runs over 13 innings with 13 strikeouts, leading the Trinity College Bantams to a 4/8-2/0 doubleheader sweep (two 7's) against the visiting Middlebury College Panthers in baseball action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 14-13, while the Panthers falls to 3-19. 

Meekins was shaky out of the gate, walking the first two batters of the game and yielding a two-out, two-run double to Middlebury junior DH John Luke (Richmond, Va.) in the first inning.  Trinity got both runs back in the third inning, as freshman DH Jonathan Frank (Vernon, Conn.) led off with a single and scored after a double by senior 2B Connor Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn.) and a Middlebury error.  Bantam senior CF Evan Abraham (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) drove home Sullivan with a single to tie the game at 2-2 after three innings, and Trinity took the lead for good on a lead-off, solo bomb to left field by senior SS Adam Moossmann (East Northport, N.Y.) in the fourth frame.  Senior tri-captain C Carson Kenney (Kensington, Md.) added an RBI single in the sixth inning to round out the scoring, and Meekins allowed just two runners past first base from the second inning to the sixth before sophomore lefty reliever Sam Jordan (Sherborn, Mass.) came on in the seventh to collect a save.

In the second game, Robinson tossed a two-hit shutout with two walks and five K's, and junior 3B Dan Pidgeon (Darien, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with a double, a steal, and two runs scored for Trinity.  The Bantams scored four times in the second inning on a two-run single by Sullivan, and a two-run double by sophomore OF Nick Pezzella (Worcester, Mass.).  Middlebury committed two errors in the inning, so just of four runs allowed by Panther first-year starter Robert Erickson (Dallas, Texas) was earned.  Trinity tacked on three more in the fourth frame, a senior tri-captain 1B Bryan Wolfe (La Habra Heights, Calif.) provided an RBI single and both first-year OF Brendan Pierce (Hingham, Mass.) and Moossmann doubled home runs.  Kenney delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning for the final run of the game.  Middlebury did not advance a runner past first base until the seventh frame when the bases loaded up on a hit batsman, a single by Raj Palekar (New Rochelle, N.Y.), and a Bantam error, but Robinson retired the final two batters to close it out.

Meekins improved to 3-1, allowing four hits and walking three with eight strikeouts, while Middlebury senior RHP Eric Truss (Port Washington, N.Y.) fell to 2-4 with eight  hits and three earned runs allowed, one walk, and five K's over six innings of work.  Erickson dropped to 0-5.  Luke was 3-for-5 for the day for Middlebury, while Kenney and Sullivan for both 3-for-5 for Trinity, and Wolfe finished 3-for-6 for the Bantam offense.
