Baruch Hits 10 Homers, Split CUNYAC Doubleheader at Lehman

The Bearcats and Lightning of Lehman College split a CUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx, New York.

In the first game, the Bearcats fell behind 5-0 in the first inning and could not recover in an 8-5 loss.


Eric Ulino, Zachary T. Uherand Nicholas LaForgiatried to get the Bearcats back into the game by each smacking a homer, but it was not enough to avoid the defeat.

In the second game, the Bearcats bounced back and avoided a big comeback by Lehman for a 14-13 win in eight innings. The game started as if it would be a rout with the Bearcats leading, 10-1.


Angel Tejedaset the tone early with a three-run homer in the first inning. They added to the lead in the second inning with four runs. Jesus Ozuna Perezhit an RBI single, Ulino hit an RBI double, and Uher smacked his second homer of the doubleheader (two-run shot) to centerfield for the early 7-0 lead.

The bats did not stay quiet in the fourth inning as Uher hit another homer, his third today (solo shot), and Ulino smacked his second homer of the day with a solo shot of his own to take a commanding 9-1 lead.
Dan Daleyhit his first homer (solo) of the season in the fifth inning to put the team up, 10-1.

However, the Lightning did not go quietly and stormed back with a three run homer by Jhon Comas to cut the score to 10-4. Tejada hit his second homer (solo) of the game for an 11-4 score, but things changed drastically again with the furious rally by Lehman.

They scored the next six runs, highlighted with a grand slam by Christopher Lopez, to get as close as 11-10 after six innings.

The Bearcats responded in the top of the seventh with a bases loaded walk by Uher and a Lehman fielding error to build the advantage back up to 13-10. Lehman then went to their final at-bat and tied the game with three runs to send it to extra innings at 13-13.


Matthew Ballonehad the winning hit in extra innings with a ground rule double to plate Nicholas Calabresefor a 14-13 score. Lehman went down 1-2-3 in their bottom half of the eighth inning for the final in a doubleheader where the two teams combined for 40 runs.

The Bearcats will now await the completion of the entire CUNYAC schedule to determine who they will play first in the championship tournament that starts on May 7.

They will next hit the road on Tuesday, April 28, with a 6:00 pm non-conference contest at Farmingdale State on Long Island.
