Giants Score a Season-High 21 Runs in Victory Over Arcadia

La Plume, PA – Keystone College racked up a season-high 22 hits while cruising to a 21-5 victory over Arcadia University in a non-conference baseball game on Sunday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field as the Giants enjoyed their best offensive output of the season.  Keystone, who has now won seven-straight games and 10 of their last 11 contests, improves to 25-11 on the season.
 
Arcadia (17-3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Pat Shevlin drew a bases-loaded walk, but Keystone answered back with a pair of unearned runs in the home half of the frame as Eduardo Familia (Bronx, NY/Collegio Utesianode Estudios Integrados) scored on a fielding error by the Knights on a ball hit by Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) before Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) drove in Bzozowski with a double to the gap in left-center to give the Giants a 2-1 edge.
 
The hosts extended their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning as Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) scored on an RBI groundout by Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) before Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) hit a two-run single through the right side to give Keystone a four-run advantage.
 
In the home fourth, Lanfranco hit an RBI single up the middle before coming around to score on a wild pitch.  Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) followed with an RBI groundout and Herceg scored on a wild pitch to extend Keystone's lead to 9-1. 
 
Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) pushed the Giants' lead to 12-1 with a three-run blast over the wall in left-center for his team-leading sixth home run of the spring before Keystone scored six runs on six hits and two errors in the home fifth to open up a 15-1 advantage. 
 
After the Knights got a run back in the visitor's sixth on a passed ball, the Giants answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to open up a 20-2 advantage.  Herceg hit a two-run double down the right field line before Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac), Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast), and Justin Baierlein (Richmond Hill, NY/High School for Construction) followed with RBI base hits. 
 
Arcadia scored three of runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run double off the bat of Austin Eppenstein followed by an RBI single by Shevlin before Muccio launched a solo home run deep over the right field fence to close out the scoring.
 
Keystone starter Jack Simons (Great Falls, VA/Bullis School) allowed one run over the first two innings while fanning four batters before handing the ball off to Dan Maguire (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township), who tossed three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Austin Barefoot (Alexandria, PA/Tyrone Area) yielded one unearned run in the sixth inning while Rob DePhillips (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) tossed a scoreless seventh inning for the Giants.  Josh Zilla (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore) yielded three runs, only one of which was earned, in the eighth inning while Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) tossed a scoreless ninth inning with one K to close out the victory.
 
Angleucci went 4-4 with three doubles and three runs scored while Rojas, Herceg, Reyes, and Ross drove in three runs apiece to lead Keystone's offense as nine different Giants collected at least two hits in the contest.
 
Arcadia starter Michael Ferrence (1-3) was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs on six hits and four walks over the first 2.2 innings.  The Knights went on to use a total of six pitchers on the day to close out the game on the mound.
 
Shevlin and Connor Arsenault collected three hits apiece to lead Arcadia offensively with Shevlin driving in a pair of runs.
 
Keystone will host Misericordia University, currently ranked 13th in the country, in a non-conference game on Monday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
