SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Apr. 29, 2015) –
 The North Central College baseball team's late inning rally fell short Wednesday evening at Boomer Stadium, as the Cardinals fells behind early and eventually dropped the non-conference finale 7-5 to Dominican University.
 
The Stars (13-24) plated a run in each of the first two innings off Cardinal starter Andrew Houser, each on sacrifice flies, to take an early 2-0 lead.
 
After Dominican added three more runs on three hits, while taking advantage of a North Central error in the bottom of the fifth to run Houser from the contest.
 
The Cardinals (23-13) rallied in the top of the seventh, batting around in the inning to score five runs and tie the game 5-5. Dylan Goss and Nick Sotiros each walked to lead off the inning and both advanced a base on a balk two batters later.
 
With one out in the inning, Jeremy Schoessling plated Goss with a RBI groundout to third to start the Cardinal scoring, while Sotiros came around to score on a wild pitch the following batter.
 
After a David Rico two-out double down the left field line,Richard Concialdi was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.  Bobby Smith stepped to the plate and promptly lined a single to left center, scoring Rico.
 
Chris Hill drew a full count walk to extend the innings, sendingJake Rone to the plate where the senior would come through in the clutch, shooting a two-RBI single to left center, knotting the score at five.
 
The tie ballgame did not last long as the Stars took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning, stringing together three hits to plate a pair and take a 7-5 advantage.
 
North Central had runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the ninth as Smith led off with a walk and Hill followed with a double, but were stranded on their respective bases to end the game.
 
Smith finished 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored, while Rone was 2-for-5 with two RBI and Hill added a pair of hits and a walk.
 
Rone was credited with the loss on the mound, tossing the final two innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out a pair.
 
North Central returns to Zimmerman Stadium for the home finale on Friday, May 1, hosting Carthage College at 3 p.m. in the final College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) series of the season.
