FROSTBURG, Md. – The second-ranked Frostburg State baseball team pounded out 29 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Mount Aloysius in their final home games of the season, Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats took the first game 13-1 before rolling to a 15-1 win in the nightcap to tie FSU's school record of 35 wins in a season.

The Bobcats improved to 35-3 on the season while the Mounties fell to 20-18. The last time a Frostburg baseball team posted 35 wins on the year was in 1976 when the Bobcats went 35-8-1 under head coach Bob Wells and were NAIA District Tournament qualifiers and finished the season ranked 18th in the NAIA.

FSU and the Mounties were tied 1-1 going into the bottom half of the third inning of the first game before the Bobcats exploded for 10 runs in the third to take an 11-1 lead. Senior Nick Walker drove in the game-winning run on an RBI triple to right to bring home classmate Zach Weiss. Junior Zach Keeler and Senior Lane Farmer hit back-to-back run scoring doubles before juniors Connor Cooper and Jamaal Windom went back-to-back with RBI singles to push the Bobcat lead to 6-1. In his second at-bat of the inning, Weiss worked a five-pitch bases-loaded walk to score Cooper. Walker drove in a pair of runs with his second hit of the inning before Weiss scored the final run of the frame on a wild pitch to give FSU the 11-1 advantage.

Junior Kyle McCormack found himself in trouble for the first time in the game with the bases loaded and just one out in the fourth but a strong throw from Walker in centerfield on a fly ball kept the Mounties at their respective bases before a ground ball to senior Ricky Castro at shortstop ended the inning without a run crossing the plate.

Weiss brought home junior Jeremy Remalia in the fourth on a single to left to push the FSU lead to 12-1. Junior Robert Tucker drove home the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth with a ground out to third to score freshman Chad Wien.

Sophomore Rob Wetherbee worked himself out of trouble in the top of the seventh with runners at second and third getting Jesse Bortner to ground out and end the game.

McCormack earned the win in game one improving to 1-1 on the year while Jacob Bryja suffered the loss for Mount Aloysius. McCormack went 4.0 innings while allowing just one run on five hits and three walks and struck out five. Freshman Garrett Wiles threw a scoreless 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and one walk and struck out one. Wetherbee finished the final 1.1 innings with one hit and one walk.

Mount Aloysius got out to an early lead in the second game as Dalton Garlock scored on an errant throw by the Bobcat catcher after stealing thrid. The single run would be all the Mounties would score though as a trio of FSU pitchers combined to two-hit the Mounties.

Frostburg put up at least a pair of runs in every inning except for the sixth and used a four-run first and a five-run fifth to carry the Bobcats to a 15-1 win in the second game of the twin bill.

Castro and Weiss scored on back-to-back wild pitches in the first before senior Ricky Brady hit his 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot to right center to give FSU a 4-1 lead.  The Bobcats scored a pair of runs in the second, third and fourth inning before posting five in the fifth to seal the victory.

Junior Pat Sines led off the fifth with a double to right center before Wien brought him home with a single through the right side. Windom followed with a single to center to score junior Vince Foreman. Freshman Nick Grimaldi worked a walk to load the bases and Keeler hit his seventh sacrifice fly of the season to score Wien. The seven sac flies ties a program record for most in a single season. Remalia and freshman Evan Colon collected back-to-back RBI singles for the final two runs of the game and to give FSU its 15-1 cushion.

Fresham Jake Stephens struck out the side in the sixth before junior Zach Lawhorn set the Mounties down in order in the seventh to close out the game.

Sophomore Ryan Callahan worked 5.0 innings on the mound allowing just two hits and one unearned run to improve to 4-1 on the year while Stephens and Lawhorn each pitched a scoreless inning.

Walker led FSU at the plate with four hits between the two games while 16 different Bobcats collected at least one hit on the day.

Frostburg State travels to La Roche on Saturday for a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
