The baseball team is off to a great start at the 2015 CUNYAC Tournament that began this afternoon with the higher seeds hosting the first games.

The Bearcats pounded out 14 runs on 14 hits and received an outstanding effort at the plate (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 HR, 3 runs scored) and mound (9 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 11 K) from
Zachary T. Uherto record the postseason win at Westchester Community College baseball field.

"It was great to get the win and our seniors really stepped it up today," said Head Coach Jose Torres. "Zachary was great at the plate and on the mound. He led us to this important win to start the Championship Tournament on a positive note."

The Lightning struck first with a pair of RBI singles in the second inning, but the Bearcats stormed back in a big way to take over the lead in the third inning.

Uher smacked his ninth homer of the season – a two-run shot over the centerfield fence - to put the Bearcats ahead at that time, 3-2. The team exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning and never looked back en route to the 14-5 game one win.


Nicholas LaForgiabatted 3-for-3, and Angel Tejedaalso hit his ninth homer of the season in the seventh inning to help seal the victory. Matthew Ballonefinished with three RBI.

The Lightning did not go quietly and scored twice in their final at-bat before succumbing to the loss on a very sunny and warm afternoon in Valhalla, New York.

The second day of the double-elimination tournament will shift tomorrow (Friday) to MCU Park on Coney Island.

Lehman will play CCNY in the loser's bracket game at 1:00 pm, followed the Bearcats and Staten Island playing at 4:00 pm in the winner's bracket.
