STEVENSON, Md. – The second-ranked Frostburg State baseball team rolled to an 11-3 win over Stevenson Thursday afternoon to improve to 37-5 on the year, tying the second-most wins in a season by a Capital Athletic Conference school.

Senior Zach Weiss got the Bobcats (37-5) on the board early with an RBI double to right center to bring around senior Ricky Castro and give FSU a 1-0 lead in the third. Frostburg is now 29-2 on the year when scoring the game's first run. The Mustangs (20-21-2) countered with a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.

With the score tied 1-1 after four, the Bobcats posted at least one run in the following four innings. Castro came up to bat in the fifth with runners on the corners and broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to right to bring home classmate Nick McElfish. Sophomore JT Tipton scored after stealing third and coming home on a throwing error by the Mustang pitcher. Freshman Greg Schneider pushed the Bobcat lead to 4-1 with a single up the middle to score senior Ricky Brady from second in the top of the sixth.

Frostburg broke the game open with four runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-1 lead. Once again Castro came up to bat with runners on the corners but this time he doubled to centerfield to bring home Tipton and McElfish. Weiss pushed the visitor's lead to 8-1 as he sent a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence for his fourth home run of the season.

The Bobcats took advantage of two Mustang errors in the top of the eighth to score three runs and take an 11-1 lead. After freshman Robert Tucker reached on a fielding error by the Stevenson shortstop, McElfish was hit by a pitch and Tipton reached on a fielding error by the catcher to load the bases. Weiss picked up his fourth RBI of the game after getting hit by a 1-0 pitch to bring home Tucker. Senior Nick Walker collected the first and only hit of the inning with a single to left to bring home Tipton and McElfish for the 11-1 lead.

The Mustangs got two runs back in the bottom of the eighth but it proved to be too little too late as junior Logan Hunt came out in relief and threw a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game for FSU.

Sophomore Ryan Callahan improved to 5-1 on the season after going 5.2 innings and allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out two. Freshman Tyler Hoffman allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief work for the Bobcats. Alec Romanowski endured the loss for Stevenson after allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four Bobcats.

Weiss, Castro and Schneider each collected a pair of hits while Weiss drove in four runs and Castro drove in three. McElfish and Tipton each scored three times for FSU.

The Bobcats wrap up their regular season tomorrow as they host Franklin & Marshall at 4:00 pm at Bob Wells Field.
