MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 12, 2016) – The Sewanee baseball team dropped a doubleheader to instate-rival Maryville, Friday, on a cold day at Scotland Yard in East Tennessee.

The Tigers fell to 0-4 early this season while the Scots improved to 3-2.

In the opener, Sewanee got off to a rocky start when starter Drew Mancuso allowed five runs on six hits in the first two innings. Despite the rough start, Mancuso settled in and allowed only one hit the final three innings he was on the mound.

Already ahead 5-0, Maryville added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth when Brendan Lawler homered to left and Andrew Henry and Johnny Carpenter both drove in runs.

Sewanee finally got on the board, when Ryan Poole homered in Tony Dykes with a blast over left center in the top of the seventh.

The Tigers eventually added four more runs, one in the eighth and three more in the ninth.

Overall, Dykes, Tyler Minkkinen, Trey Akins, and Derek Hullings each had multiple hits in the opener. Additionally, Bryce Benedict and Poole both finished with two RBI.

Maryville starter Seth Debity was outstanding on the mound as he struck out six and allowed only two runs in 6.1 innings.

Overall, four Scots had hits for extra bases while Lawler added two hits, three RBI, and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Maryville starter Jeremy Ibarra was the difference maker. The Scots' starter tossed a complete-game three-hitter in the win. Ibarra allowed only three hits while striking out five.

With that, Tiger starter J.T. Hintzen was charged with the loss despite striking out seven in a complete-game effort. Despite Hintzen's quality start, the Tiger pitcher was undone when Zack Blonder and Chris Ervin drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Sewanee and Maryville will complete a four-game series with a doubleheader Sunday in Sewanee. The Tigers and Scots are scheduled to begin at noon at historic Montgomery Field.
