Willamette Rallies to Avoid Sweep

LOS ANGELES -- Walker Marks went 4 for 4 with a double and two runs scored and the Occidental baseball team had a six-run lead early.

But the Tigers couldn't hang on for the sweep as Willamette rallied to even the game and eventually win in extra innings, 10-6 in 10 innings on Sunday.

The Tigers took the first two games of the series by one run each.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 2-2 on the season.

Willamette improves to 4-4.

The Tigers were up 6-0 until the Bearcats started their climb back into the game in the fifth inning. Willamette scored one that inning, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to even the game at 6-6.

In the top of the 10th the Bearcats rallied for four runs to put the game out of reach.

Will Martel had a good outing as Oxy's starter, pitching four scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Jackson Watt got the win and Josh Cohen was charged with the loss. 

Gordie Clary led the Bearcats in the game, going 3 for 6 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

Next Game: The Tigers open the SCIAC season with a three-game series against Chapman, beginning in Orange on Friday and then back home on Saturday for a doubleheader.
