Union, N.J. (2/27/16) – Senior Ryan Reitmeyer lined a walkoff double to propel the Kean University baseball team past DeSales University by the final of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth senior Ryan Kelley started off the inning with a single up the middle.  Sophomore Matt Krupa followed that with a single through the left side and a perfectly placed bunt from senior Andy Lopez moved both runners into scoring position.  Krupa was lifted for pinch-runner Mike Perone, who would become the game-winning run.  That setup Reitmeyer who battled through an 0-2 count and found real estate in the gap for the walkoff win.

Offensively Krupa was 2-4 with two RBI while Lopez was 1-for-3 with a double.

The Cougars (2-3) got an early lead with two runs in their first at-bat.  Junior Tyler Heisch led things off with a single and senior Michael Kendall followed that with a full-count walk.  Kelley moved over both runners and Krupa provided the 2-0 advantage with a single.

The score would remain that way until the Bulldogs (0-1) rallied to take the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh aided by four walks in the frame, including two with the bases loaded.  Colby Kulig was the only batter to record an RBI via a hit, and RBI single for DeSales first run.

Reliever Chris Amato earned the win.  Amato (1-0) tossed two and a third innings allowing two walks and two hits while striking out three.  Reliever Kevin Benjamin took the loss after coming in for the ninth inning.  Bulldog starter Steven Wallace recorded a no-decision after allowing two runs in seven innings with four strikeouts.

Kean will be back in action on Sunday when they host FDU-Florham at noon.
