FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Gettysburg College baseball team continued its torrid start, pounding out 45 hits and scoring 37 runs in a pair of victories on the second day of its Spring Break trip to Florida on Monday.

The Bullets (5-0) opened the day with an 18-2 victory over Hiram College, out-hitting the Terriers 25-9, then defeated Finlandia University 19-4.

Despite the Gettysburg's gaudy offensive display, the team's most impressive performance came in the second game, when junior Aaron Bezio carried a perfect game into the seventh inning.

Sophomore Logan Sneed led the offense, going 5-for-7 with six runs and four RBIs over the two games. Junior Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) added six RBIs for the afternoon.

The Bullets, who are 5-0 for the first time since 2007, have now outscored their opponents 61-12 for the season and are batting .428 as a team.

Versus Hiram, the Bullets fell behind 2-0 after three innings but unloaded with 12 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the fourth, when they sent 17 batters to the plate. Anderson clouted a three-run triple in the inning.

Gettysburg tacked on three more runs in both the fifth and eighth innings. In the meantime, sophomore Brad DeMartino pitched well in his first game of the year. The left-hander surrendered just two runs on eight hits and no walks over seven innings while tying his career-high with 10 strikeouts. Freshman Sam Dobbins (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) came to throw two scoreless innings in his collegiate debut.

Senior Luke Lawrence, the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, recorded his fourth-straight three-hit game to open the season, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and a triple. Sneed went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs while seniors Shawn Moffitt and Henry Klimowicz each went 3-for-5.

Though the Bullets piled up 20 more hits versus Finlandia, Bezio took center stage, retiring the first 18 batters he faced. He struck out nine along the way and allowed the ball out of the infield just twice before the Lions spoiled his bid for perfection in the top of the seventh, when leadoff batter Patrick Coles led off with a single through the left side. Finlandia would go on to score three runs in the inning, but by that point Gettysburg had already put 16 runs on the board.

The Bullets spotted Bezio an early 8-0 lead, scoring twice in the first and six times in the second. The Orange and Blue added eight more runs from the fourth through the sixth innings. After Finlandia's three-run seventh, Gettysburg scored three more runs over the seventh and eighth. The Lions set the final score with one run in the top of the ninth.

One day after working a 1 1/3-inning save, Bezio (1-0) pitched the longest outing of his Gettysburg career. He ended with a line of seven innings, four hits, three runs, zero walks, and nine strikeouts. Freshman Matt Ainsworth came on to throw the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two in his collegiate debut.

Senior Andrew Hourigan finished 3-for-6 versus Finlandia while sophomore Andrew Jacobson drove in four runs.

Gettysburg continues its southern swing on Tuesday, when it takes on Rockford University at noon in a single nine-inning game.
