Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College junior catcher Tyler Rains (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore designated hitter Frank Pettinato (Cranston, RI) each belted a home run and drove in three runs as the baseball team played to a 10-10 tie (10 innings) with intra-state rival Roger Williams at Anchorman Field on Thursday afternoon.

The game advanced to the 11^th inning, with each team scoring two runs in the stanza before the game was called due to darkness, reverting back to the last completed frame. RIC (5-6-1) had a man on second with no outs when the game was called due to darkness.

RWU (6-5-1) started the game off quickly, using a pair of singles to put runners on first and second with one out. The Hawks went ahead when junior right fielder Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, MA) knocked an RBI single to right field. RWU advanced a runner to third, but RIC starting pitcher, sophomore Daniel Greaves (Warwick, RI), got out of the jam with a strikeout to end the inning.

The Anchormen rallied in the bottom of the second by scoring three times. Junior leftfielder Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) started the inning off with a triple and was driven in on a single by sophomore right fielder Edward Apice (North Kingstown, RI). Following a flyout to center, Pettinato turned on a pitch and blasted it over the left field wall for a 3-1 lead. RWU was able to get a run back in the third on a solo home run, but did the majority of its damage in the fifth and sixth innings.

Following a leadoff single by freshman Chris Bosco (North Andover, MA), senior center fielder Jamie Timothy (Cohasset, MA) stepped up and ripped a two-run homer to give the lead back to the Hawks, 4-3. The inning wasn't over, however, as a triple from senior shortstop Kevin Baker (Wilbraham, MA) drove in Rogers to make the score 5-3. Roger Williams was able to tack on one more in the inning on a sacrifice fly to center field to make the game 6-3 entering the sixth.

A lead-off triple followed by a walk opened the inning for RWU in the top of the sixth, with a single by Timothy driving in both runs to increase  the visitors' lead to five, 8-3. Rogers drove in Timothy with a single thru the right side to cap the scoring in the stanza.

RWU was able to score one in the top of the seventh to make the score 10-3 before the Anchormen began their rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI) started the bottom of the eighth with a single and steal, and was advanced to third on a single by Barry. With the bases juiced, Apice advanced everyone on a fielder's choice to first, with a throwing error allowing Douglas to score. Rains then knocked a single through the left to drive in one for the surging Anchormen. Pettinato notched another RBI on the night by ripping a sacrifice fly to left field. Following a strikeout, back-to-back wild pitches allowed two more RIC runs to cross the plate making the score 10-8 entering the ninth inning.

RIC was able to hold RWU scoreless in the top half of the frame before staging their late rally. After their first two batters were retired, the Anchormen continued their comeback with an Apice single. Advancing to second after another wild pitch, Rains proved to be the hero, ripping a home run over the right field fence to knot the game at 10-apiece and send the contest into extra innings.

Neither team was able to muster any offense in the 10^th, while both were able to put two on the board in the 11^th before the game was ruled a tie due to darkness.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play a doubleheader at Bridgewater State on Saturday, March 19 (noon).
