PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Heidelberg University baseball team fell in their final game in Florida, as some timely soft hits gave No. 19 Wooster a 5-2 win over the Student Princes. Heidelberg had a late chance with runners on base in the 9th, but they were unable to score as the Scots held on.

Heidelberg fell to 5-9 with the loss while Wooster improved to 4-1.

After Wooster plated a run in the top of the first inning, Heidelberg was able to tie the game at one with an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the second.

The game turned into a pitcher's duel for the middle innings, as Wooster was able to plate one more in the fourth on some soft hits.

The Student Princes were able to get runners on base, but weren't quite able to string together enough hits for a run, as that lead held for the Scots until the top of the sixth.

Wooster was able to build a larger lead in the sixth, as three runs made the score 5-1 in favor of the Scots as they had their first extra-base hit of the game.

Heidelberg was able to tack on one in the bottom of the seventh after the first two batters of the inning reached, but that would be all they would go for in the inning as a double play ball helped the Scots out of the jam.

After the Student Princes got the first two runners on to start off the bottom of the 9th, still trailing by just three, a fly out to right gave the Berg 1st and 3rd with one out. On a ball that got past the Wooster catcher, HU attempted to score, but was thrown out at the plate. A pop up would then end the game.

Kyle Fluharty (1-3) took the loss after throwing 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Sam Ankrom was solid in relief, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings with four punchouts.

Clayton Wielinski, Parker Fronk, and Joe Walton each had a pair of hits to lead the Heidelberg offense.

Heidelberg will head back north for the remainder of their season, with their next scheduled game set for Wednesday, March 23rd at La Roche. That contest is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh.
