Baruch Drops Doubleheader to Maritime

The baseball team lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to the SUNY Maritime College Privateers on Saturday afternoon at MCU Park on Coney Island.

In the opener, the Bearcats fell behind early 5-2, but took the lead with four runs on five hits in the fourth inning to go ahead 6-5.

The visiting Privateers broke open the contest in their final at-bat of the seventh inning with five runs on two hits to overtake the lead at 10-6.

The Bearcats would not go quietly in the bottom of the seventh and rallied to score two runs, but fell short 10-8 in the game one loss.


Matthew Ballone(3-for-3, 1 RBI) and Jasdeep Buttar(3-for-4, 3 RBI) did the damage at the plate, while Dan Daleyfinished with three RBI as part of a 14-hit attack in the disappointing loss.

In the second game, the bats stayed quiet with only five hits, while the Privateers scored five runs on 12 hits behind the shutout effort from pitcher A.J. Ammirati (7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 4 K).
