AUBURNDALE, Fla. – University of Maine at Farmington baseball (4-2) had trouble with last season's Little East baseball championship finalist Eastern Connecticut State (8-2) on Wednesday afternoon with a 12-1 non-conference loss at the RussMatt Invitational.

Eastern Connecticut started the game off with a leadoff homerun and then added four more runs in the frame.

UMF generated a two-out rally in the bottom of the second inning and scored a run. Jimmy Parks (Springvale, Maine/Sanford) reached on an error and advanced to second on an overthrow. Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) followed with an RBI single to right field to close the gap, 5-1.

The Warriors added a pair of runs in the sixth inning and then three more in the top of the seventh.

Brett Elliott (Danville, Vt./Danville) started on the mound for UMF and pitched four innings and surrendered three earned runs and struck out three Warriors. Kevin Carter (Bowdoinham, Maine/Mt. Aratat) relieved Elliott to finish the game in his first collegiate appearance on the hill and recorded his first strikeout.
