#22 Wooster Uses Late Comeback to Top Keystone

Port Charlotte, Fla. - The College of Wooster, currently ranked #22 in the nation, erased a 6-2 deficit late to defeat Keystone College, 10-6 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday in Florida. The Fighting Scots improve to 6-2 with the comeback victory while the Giants will bring a 9-3 overall mark back north after finishing with a 6-2 record in their spring break trip.

Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Chris Triano (Greenwich, CT/Rye), but Wooster countered with a pair of runs in their first at-bats to claim a 2-1 edge. The Giants scored a pair of runs in the visitor's third as Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) drove in Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) with an RBI groundout before Triano brought home Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic) with a double to give Keystone a 3-2 lead.

Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) singles in the top of the fifth to bring home Reyes before another RBI double by Triano plated Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) in the visitor's seventh to give Keystone a 6-2 lead.

Wooster drew to with three runs in the bottom of the seventh before plating seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the victory.

Jamie Lackner led Wooster with four hits while Jake Fling and Kenny Reckart had three hits each.

Michael Houdek started on the mound for the Fighting Scots and allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings before handing the ball off to Zach Woollard, who picked up the win after allowing one run on one hit in two innings. Michael Whitaker closed out the game with with scoreless ninth inning.

Triano went 3-5 with three RBIs to power Keystone's offense in the loss while Lanfranco and Eady scored two runs apiece.

Billy Nelson (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) started on the mound for the Giants and allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out eight batters in six innings of work. Jeffrey Ledesma (Yonkers, NY/Norman Thomas) yielded one run on two hits to go along with one K in an inning for work while Hector Vargas (Corona, NY/Forest Hills) was touched up for four runs on two hits before turning the ball over to Jack Simons (Great Falls, VA/Bullis School), who was charged with two runs. Nick Spinella (Bethel, CT/Bethel) picked up the final two outs on the hill for the Giants and surrendered one run on two hits.

Keystone will play their home opener on Saturday afternoon against Kean University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
