Hauer Leads Saints to 17-6 Win Over Wittenberg

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Freshman catcher Sam Hauer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had five hits, including two home runs today (Wednesday, March 23, 2016) to lead the Thomas More College baseball team to a 17-6 win over Wittenberg University in a non-conference game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 5-3 and with the loss, the Tigers fall to 4-6.

Thomas More scored four runs in the first, three in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth and held Wittenberg to four runs in the first, one in the third and one in the fifth.

The Saints belted out 18 hits and were led by Hauer, who was five-for-five with two home runs, a double, four runs scored and six runs batted-in.  Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-five with a triple, three runs scored and a RBI, junior center fielder Casey Metzer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-three with a home run, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI and freshman designated hitter Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was two-for-four with four runs scored and a RBI.

Freshman pitcher Ethan Kramer (Sunman, Ind./East Central) pitched three innings and had a no decision as he gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits and struck out five.  Six Saint relievers pitched one inning to close out the game and freshman pitcher Adam Ruwe (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) earned the win as he pitched a one-two-three fourth inning.

Thomas More returns to action on Friday (March 25) when it opens a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series with Waynesburg University at Thomas More Field.  The Saints and Yellow Jackets will play a single nine-inning game on Friday at 4 p.m. and doubleheader on Saturday (March 26) starting at 12 p.m.
