WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 9/10 Shenandoah and No. 5/7 Randolph-Macon solved nothing Saturday in their ODAC baseball doubleheader as each squad walked away with one victory.
Shenandoah (18-6, 7-4 ODAC) was an 8-2 winner in the nightcap after R-MC (20-5-1, 7-5) took game one 10-8.
Senior left-hander Michael Scimanico (3-1) was the winner for the Hornets in game two; Scimanico gave up two runs on six hits and three walks in 7.0 innings of work.
Scimanico struck out eight before turning it over to classmates Ryan Mossman and Phil Morse for the eighth and ninth, respectively.
Trailing 2-0, SU scored three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to break open the nightcap. Junior shortstopJohn Wilt, who made a number of outstanding defensive plays, had hits in both the fifth and sixth to key the offensive onslaught.
Wilt had RBI singles in both frames to go along with singles in the first and ninth. He finished the contest 4 for 5 with two RBI.
Shenandoah had 13 hits in the nightcap with all but one starter getting at least one. Tristan Baker backed up Wilt with a 3 for 5 contest that included and RBI and two runs scored.
Macon scored six runs in the first four innings to jump out to a 6-1 lead in game one only to see the Hornets rally with a combined five runs in the fourth through sixth innings and an additional two runs in the eighth.
With the scored tied at 8-8 heading into the ninth, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on three hits off of SU relievers Steve Jones and Ryan Mossman to grab the victory.
Herminio Azor drove in the game-winning run as Mossman was unable to field Azor's dribbler in front of the mound before Nick Maiolo scored from the third.
Maiolo had led off the R-MC ninth with a single to left off of Jones (0-1).
Senior Lew Johnson had four of the Hornets 11 hits in the contest with Jake Loew and Nate Loman getting two each. Loew, along with Tristan Baker and John Wilt, drove in two runs each.
Cody Thompson (1-0), the fourth of Macon's five pitchers in the game, got the win. Thompson allowed one hit in 1/3 of an inning of work.
