#7 Emory Tops #6 Birmingham Southern, 8-3, for Fourth Straight Win

The #7 Emory University Baseball program won its fourth straight contest on Wednesday afternoon, defeating #6 Birmingham Southern for the second time in nine days, 8-3 at Chappell Park. The Eagles have now won nine of their last 10 games to improve to 24-7 while the Panthers drop to 23-8.

Freshman Billy Dimlow stayed perfect on the mound during his rookie season moving to 6-0 on the year. Pitching for the first time in over two weeks, Dimlow tossed seven scoreless innings in the victory. He gave up just five hits to go along with three strikeouts and allowed just one runner to reach third in the outing.

At the plate, four Eagles collected two RBI a piece to account for all eight Emory runs. Seniors Dylan EisnerChris Slivka and junior Philip Maldari each had two hits and drove in a pair while senior Ben Vizvary collected two RBI on a walk and a sac fly. Junior Wilson reached base in all five plate appearances, going 1-for-1 with three walks, a hit-by-pitch and scored a team-high three runs.

The Eagles raced out to 4-0 lead after one inning of play. Emory plated its first two runs of the game on back-to-back bases loaded walks to Eisner and Vizvary before Slivka singled through the left side to score Eisner and junior Brian Hernandez. The Eagles made it 5-0 in the second inning as Vizvary flew out to right to bring home Morgan from third.

Emory tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning as Eisner doubled to right center to plate Morgan and Maldari doubled down the left field line, scoring Eisner and sophomore Nick Chambers.

Birmingham Southern ended the shutout bid in the ninth inning, scoring three times off Eagles reliever sophomore Mack Wilkins before junior Kyle Monk came on to record the final two outs of the ballgame.

Emory will play next this weekend as the team hosts N.C. Wesleyan in a three game series at Chappell Park. The teams will begin the series with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at noon.
