DelVal Baseball Snaps Three-Game Skid With 18-5 Rout Of John Jay

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team snapped its three-game losing streak with an 18-5 victory over visiting John Jay College in a non-conference game on Wednesday.

The Aggies improved to 10-6 while the Bloodhounds dropped to 7-16.

DelVal got off to a hot start with seven runs in the first inning. John Jay cut the deficit to three (7-4) with one run in the fourth and three in the fifth. However, the Aggies came back with 11 straight runs, five in the fifth and six in the seventh. The Bloodhounds scored their final tally in the ninth.

Sophomore Jeremy Stewart went three-for-four with a double, one RBI and two runs scored. Junior Mike Anusky was two-for-three with three RBI and a run scored. Senior Matt Dewald, junior Kyle Wenger and sophomore Kevin Crill also had two hits apiece. Wenger recorded a triple while Dewald smacked a double. They both drove in two runs while Crill knocked in one. Crill and Wenger both scored twice and Dewald crossed the plate once. Juniors Ben Lippincott and Nate Cummings each totaled two RBI and senior Corey White, sophomore Matt Beyer and freshman Ryan Schuetrumpf had one RBI apiece.

Senior Jake Richard was the starting pitcher and went two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. Sophomore Nick Liantonio was credited with the win (1-0).

For John Jay, catcher Dylan Laudano went three-for-five with a double, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Third baseman Noel Sanchez drove in the other tally. Shortstop Zach Hyde and first baseman Brian Garcia each had two hits and scored a run. Matthew Oppedisano suffered the loss (1-4) on the mound.

Delaware Valley resumes conference play at home against Eastern University on Friday, April 8 (3:30 p.m.).
