MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College scored 10 runs in the middle three innings en route to a 13-4 win over the College of Wooster, ranked #21 nationally, Wednesday (April 6) evening at Don Schaly Stadium.  The Etta Express improves to 14-8 overall and Wooster slips to 11-5 on the season.

Senior Christian Herstine (3-2) cruised through the first four innings retiring all but one Wooster batter he faced. The Scots managed just one single as the Pioneer ace notched his third win of the season. Herstine struck out four.

The Pioneers broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the fourth inning. Mike Hale started the rally with a double to left field. Tim McCoy dropped down the sac bunt but was safe at first as the Scots attempted, unsuccessfully, to get Hale at third. Tyler Packanik lined a single to right scoring Hale and sending McCoy to third.

Michael Barnabei pushed a bunt to the right side and beat the throw at first for a base hit. McCoy scampered home with MC's second run while Packanik moved into scoring position at second base. Eric White reached on an infield single loading the bases and forcing Wooster to make a pitching change.

Hank Schlueter took over for starter Wyatt Linde and struck out the first batter he faced. Joe Gardner picked up an RBI when he reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Packanik to score. Brandon Papp then lined a single to right scoring Barnabei for a 4-0 Marietta lead.

Hale got things rolling in the fifth inning as well when he lined the first pitch of the inning over the wall in left field. Marietta extended its lead to 8-0 by the end of the frame as White smacked a three-run double into the right field corner.

Wooster cut the deficit in half with four runs of its own in the top of the sixth inning. Kordell Antill, who took over for Herstine in the fifth, allowed his first earned runs of the season.

Marietta added two runs in the home half of the sixth and then tacked on three unearned runs in the eighth. Barnabei drove in two of the runs in the eighth with a triple to center field, while White picked up his fourth RBI of the game with a single.

Four Pioneers toed the rubber. Herstine worked the first four innings. Antill threw two innings and was charged with four runs on four base hits. Scott Oberhelman worked the next two innings and allowed one hit and walked one. David Stover pitched the ninth.

Linde (0-1) started and got the loss for Wooster. He worked 3.0 innings and allowed four runs on six hits. Five other Scots saw time on the mound.

White led the Pioneer attack going 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Barnabei had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three. Hale and McCoy also had two hits apiece in the game. Hale scored four times and had a double and home run, while McCoy scored three runs.

The Pioneers return to Ohio Athletic Conference play this Saturday (April 9) when Baldwin Wallace University visits Don Schaly Stadium for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
