Giants Sweep CSAC Doubleheader From Highlanders

Langhorne, Pa. – Keystone College swept a Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader at Cairn University, using a big second inning to post a 12-3 victory in the opener before  scoring a pair of late runs to earn a 2-0 shutout win in the nightcap.  Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) extended his hitting streak to 20 games while Chris Triano (Greenwich, CT/Rye) hit two home runs to help the Giants improve to 15-4 overall and 4-1 in the CSAC.
 
Game 1
 
Keystone took control of Friday's opener by scoring eight runs on seven hits in the top of the second inning.  Tony Hunter II (Atlanta, GA/South Effingham) drove in the first two runs of the game with a single to right field before Reyes collected an RBI base hit to left, extending his hitting streak to 19 games.  Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic) and Billy Nelson (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) had RBI singles before Triano broke the game open with a three-run home run to centerfield.
 
Keystone extended their lead to 9-0 in the visitor's fifth when Reyes doubled home Robbie Nardelli (Eynon, PA/Valley View) before Cairn (10-10, 0-6 CSAC) got on the board in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI groundout.  The Highlanders scored another run in the home sixth to make it an 9-2 game before Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) launched a two-run home run in the top of the seventh and Nelson added an RBI single to push Keystone's lead to 12-2.  The Highlanders scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
Felix Baez (San Juan, PR/Colegio Presbiteriano de Puerto Nuevo) improve to 3-1 on the season after allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight batters in five full innings on the mound.  Blake DeMeter (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) surrendered one run on three hits and picked up one K in the sixth inning before turning the ball over to Junior Bautista (Haina, Domincan Republic/Christiana), who yielded one run on one hit while fanning two in the seventh inning.
 
Reyes, Nelson, and Lanfranco had three hits apiece in the victory for the Giants.
 
Cairn starter Eric Stinglen took the loss after giving up eight runs on 11 hits for the Highlanders, who got two hits apiece from Joey Nieves-Markee, Caleb Lang, and Jacob Allen in the game one loss. 
 
Game 2
 
Friday's nightcap was a pitchers' dual, with Keystone's James Dunning (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) and Cairn's Sam Draille turning in outstanding starts.  Dunning struck out six batters and scattered five hits over five scoreless innings while Draille took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before the Giants finally broke through.
 
Hunter led off the top of the sixth inning with a walk before Lanfranco and Reyes hit back-to-back singles to load the bases as the Giants collected their first two hits of the game.  Eady then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that drove in Hunter from third with the game's first run.
 
Triano gave Keystone an insurance run by leading off the visitor's seventh with his fourth home run of the season.
 
Yeison Andujar (Carolina, PR/Programa Educativo Alcance), who took over in the sixth inning, struck out three batters and allowed just one hit while picking to pick up his seventh save of the year by preserving Dunning's second win of the spring.
 
Draille took the hard-luck loss on the mound for Cairn after allowing just three hits in the complete game effort.  Aaron Takacs paced the Highlanders offensively with three hits in the game two defeat.

Keystone is scheduled to host Cairn on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field in Moosic starting at 1:30 p.m. as part of the 4th Annual Bill Howerton Strikeout Cancer Weekend.
