Eastern Pitching Baffles DelVal Baseball In 4-0 Setback

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team could not figure out the Eastern University pitching staff as the Eagles shutout the Aggies, 4-0 in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game on Friday.

DelVal is 10-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference while Eastern has a 10-10-2 record with a 4-4 MAC Freedom mark.

The Aggies were only able to muster four hits on the afternoon against five Eagles' hurlers. Junior right-hander Ryan Kehr twirled six frames for the win (3-2), allowing three hits while walking two with four strikeouts. Senior Jake Richard suffered the loss (2-2), surrendering four runs while striking out five in seven innings of work.

After four scoreless frames, Eastern broke through for two runs in the fifth. With the bases loaded, junior right fielder Angelo Kelly singled to left field to score one run. Sophomore catcher/third baseman Timmy Gorton followed with a sacrifice fly to plate freshman second baseman/catcher Jordan Laboy. The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth on sophomore left fielder Craig Stanley's single through the left side.

Freshman shortstop Shane Albertson went four-for-four and scored a run. Senior center fielder Andrew Check was three-for-five and came home once. Junior first baseman Andrew Boykin also scored one time.

Junior center fielder Kyle Wenger hit his fourth triple of the year for Delaware Valley. Senior designated hitter Matt Dewald, senior catcher Corey White and sophomore shortstop Kevin Crill registered the other three hits.

The Aggies will travel to Eastern for a doubleheader to wrap up the season series on Sunday, April 10.
