KING'S BASEBALL PICKS UP IMPORTANT 5-2 CONFERENCE WIN OVER DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College baseball used a balanced attack with 11 base hits and four different players driving in runs as the Monarchs picked up an important 5-2 Freedom College victory over visiting Delaware Valley University Wednesday at Lipo Field.

With the win the Monarchs improved to 14-7 overall and 4-4 in league play while the Aggies slipped to 10-8 and 2-6.

King's struck first in the opening inning when Chris Rebar doubled and later scored on a RBI single by Sean Padden.  The Monarchs added three in the fourth when Christian pack and Brad Wilkins both singled and Zack Godfrey drew a walk to load the bases. Tom Gibbons then drilled a two-run double before Chris Rebar added a RBI double of his own to give the Monarchs a 4-0 lead.

King's pushed the score to 5-0 in the fifth when Padden singled, stole second base, and scored on a base hit by Kyle Lupas.

Delaware Valley added a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-2.  But King's pitcher Andrew Fisher entered the game in the eighth and retired six straight Aggies to pick up the save.

John Wickiser was the winning pitcher for King's, allowing two earned runs in six innings while striking out two batters.

Padden and Lupas were both 2-for-4 with a RBI while Rebar finished 2-for-5 while driving in a run. Gibbons was 1-for-5 with two RBI. The Monarchs also received one shutout inning of relief from Dan Hartson who relieved Wickiser in the seventh.

King's will next travel to face conference rival eastern University on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before returning home Saturday to host eastern in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
