The Maccabees scored first in their half of the first inning, as Vieto adjusted to the pitcher's mound after primarily playing right field for the Privateers during his rookie season. Vieto walked a batter with the bases loaded to make the score 1-0, but Vieto picked off the runner to end the frame.

It didn't take Maritime long to answer as DiLeo tripled into the right centerfield gap, then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 1-1. The game remained tied at one until the top of the fourth inning, when the Privateers came back up to bat.

DiLeo doubled to right centerfield once again, then moved up to third on a passed ball. Baierlein reached on a throwing error by the Maccabee defense allowing DiLeo to touch the plate and break the deadlock. Alwan singled then stole second and later came in to score as junior Chris Stewart (Bethpage, N.Y./Chaminade) drove a ball past the infield and into right field.

In the bottom of the fifth, Fortunato came on in relief of Vieto and surrendered a pair of runs as the pesky Maccabees plated a pair of runs to even the contest at three runs apiece.

With the game tied, Maritime rallied as it was once again DiLeo to start things up with a one out walk. He then moved up to third on a failed pickoff attempt by the Yeshiva defense. Baierlein followed with a triple to put Maritime ahead 4-3. Baierlein scored as Alwan delivered a run-scoring singled. Stewart was hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on with Deddo coming up.
