ITHACA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team fell to host Ithaca College, 10-4, in a non-conference match up on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Hawks fall to 16-12-2 and move on to play a doubleheader with New York University on Friday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m. The Bombers improve to 15-12 and next play Empire 8 foe Elmira College tomorrow at 6 p.m.
 
New Paltz landed on the scoreboard in the top of the first when sophomore designated hitter Chris Moran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) hit a sacrifice fly to bring home freshman shortstop Danny Campbell (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River).
 
Ithaca seized the lead in the bottom of the inning as freshman left fielder Matt Carey singled to drive in two runs before junior shortstop Trevor Thompson scored on a wild pitch to put the Bombers up, 3-1.
 
The Hawks rallied in the top of the third to tie the score, 3-all. Sophomore second baseman Anthony Pantano(Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) doubled to advance Campbell to third before both runners were driven in on a single by Moran. However, the Bombers would take the lead in the bottom of the inning, recording two runs to push ahead, 5-3, and proceeded to add runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 9-3 cushion.
 
A single by Campbell in the top of the seventh brought home sophomore center fielder Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) to cut the score to 9-4 but an RBI single by junior catcher Ryan Henchey gave the Bombers the run that provided the final 10-4 tally.
 
Six New Paltz student-athletes combined for the Hawks' seven hits, with Campbell going 2-for-4 at the plate, which included two runs while Pantano and Williams each went 1-for-4 and collected one run apiece. Moran totaled three RBIs in the loss.
 
Ithaca scattered 14 hits throughout nine innings. Five Bombers posted multi-hit outings, with Carey turning in a 3-for-4 performance with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk to lead the way.
 
Sophomore pitcher Luke Christy (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab High School for Collaborative Studies) surrendered seven runs off six hits, walked four batters and struck out four to earn the loss on the mound.
 
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Hill picked up the win for Ithaca, permitting three runs off five hits while walking three batters and striking out five. Freshman pitcher Zach Zottola earned the save in relief, allowing one run off two hits, walking two and striking out five in three innings of work.
